Evansville police were on their way to a disorderly conduct call in the 1300 block of Hatfield Drive last night when it was changed to a shots-fired call.
Arriving officers found the victim lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to the leg and abdomen, and a suspect standing nearby.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
The suspect was taken to police headquarters for questioning.
Officers later learned that before the victim was shot he was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife, which became violent.
At that point, the wife called the suspect to come protect her, and a fight broke out between the suspect and the victim.
That fight culminated in the shooting.
The suspect was released pending charges.
