Jess Powers sent out a Press Release saying the following:
Late Thursday afternoon, a jury found 48-year-old Amy Marie Grannan GUILTY AS CHARGED in a 2017 investigation following a report of shots fired in the 11000 block of Petersburg Road.
Here is the background information:
On May 2nd, 2017, the victim was on her back porch and reported hearing a loud gunshot. When a Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene, he checked on the welfare of nearby residents and asked if they had heard anything resembling a gunshot. When the deputy spoke with Amy Grannan, she advised him that she owned a firearm for home protection. Grannan also told the deputy she didn’t hear anything resembling a gunshot. With it being very dark outside, neither the victim nor the deputy could locate any further evidence of a gunshot. Two days later, the victim opened up her closet and found a spent bullet on the closet floor. The victim also advised detectives that she has had an ongoing dispute with her neighbor, Amy Grannan.
Upon further investigation by the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, the entry point for the bullet was found to be on the north side of the victim’s residence. Investigators determined the north side of the victim’s residence sits directly behind the home of Amy Grannan. Detectives placed a trajectory rod in the hole left in the exterior wall of the home. Detectives illuminated the laser, which pointed to the backdoor of Amy Grannan’s home in the 2600 block of Heard Street.
When detectives served a search warrant at the home of Amy Grannan on May 5th, detectives advised Grannan indicated she did not have a gun and it went missing the day of the reported gunshot (May 2nd, 2017).
On May 8th, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a firearm located near a pond at the intersection of Petersburg Road and Beatty Lane. The serial number for the firearm matched the serial number for the missing firearm from Amy Grannan’s home. The projectile from the victim’s home, the box of ammo located in Amy Grannan’s vehicle, and the firearm found near the pond were sent to the Indiana State Police Evansville Regional Laboratory for examination. A forensic scientist stated the projectile recovered from the victim’s residence was fired from the firearm located near the pond which had gone missing from Amy Grannan’s home.
The sentencing hearing for Amy Grannan is scheduled for September 25th in Vanderburgh County Circuit Court.
