Some diesel fuel spilled into the White River sometime last (Thursday) night.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management says the release was reported by Indianapolis Power and Light at the utility’s power generating plant in Petersburg.
Emergency management officials say the threat of any further release is low.
They say there is a noticeable sheen on the water.
People may also notice the smell of petroleum in the White River.
I-D-E-M recommends that people avoid the section of the river between Petersburg and the Wabash River until that sheen goes away.
