A two alarm fire destroyed a plastics storage building belonging to Green Tree Plastics Tuesday afternoon.
The company is located in the 1100 block of East Virginia.
The entire street in both directions was blocked for a time.
The blaze began innocuously as a small blaze in an exhaust fan.
Employees tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher but he fire by then had spread to some of the plastic regrind, which quickly escalated the situation.
Employees were told to leave the building and the fire department was called.
A second alarm was turned in and two aerial trucks were called to do battle with the blaze.
The roof and one wall of the structure collapsed.
