Pavement is being ripped up to make repairs near 5th Street and Locust Street after an AT&T conduit was punctured.
Deputy Mayor Steve Schaefer says the damage happened as a private company was taking a soil sample near the Locust Street garage.
AT&T had to dig up a portion of 5th Street to repair the damage.
Fifth is now closed between Main and Locust, in front of the Children’s Museum.
Schaefer says he’s not been told how long these repairs are expected to take.
