The town of Francisco is without its police department.
In a unanimous vote, the town council abolished the marshal’s office and his deputy positions, and office that has served the small Gibson county town for more than a century.
The decision stems from the marshal’s office not overseeing the school zones as diligently as the board members thought they should.
Erstwhile marshal Michael Collins has been on leave since March.
The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office will now police Francisco.
