You may have heard my commercial on WIKY for Audibel Better
Hearing Center of Evansville.
As you might imagine hearing loss is an occupational hazard
for me because I need to wear headphones both on the air live and when
recording. (Some are curious why and it’s simply because in a professional studio
when you turn a microphone on, all the speakers in the room are muted to
prevent feedback. The only way to hear anything is by wearing headphones).
Hearing loss also runs in my family. My parents and a couple of sisters all experienced
hearing loss.
In a crowded restaurant it seemed I could hear everyone
except the person sitting across the table from me. Can hearing loss be that specific? Well, yes
it can. At Audibel, after a free hearing test and evaluation, they showed me that
my loss was actually in certain frequencies – precisely in ranges of the female
voice, for example. (My wife thinks it’s only specific women, ha)! Even though the nerves in my ears can pick up lots of other frequencies
with little or no loss, I have other frequencies that aren’t being detected the way they should. So what’s the solution?
Audibel showed me how modern digital hearing aids boost
those exact frequencies and restore my natural hearing. It’s astounding.
I’ve had my hearing aids in for a few weeks now. I no longer
need closed captions to watch anything on TV.
My family and co-workers are thrilled they don’t have to repeat
everything they say to me. In a restaurant, I don’t have to rely on my wife to
interpret what the server is asking. It’s a game changer.
My hearing loss is pretty common. But it’s different for
everyone. Still, Audibel Better Hearing Center in Evansville can likely find a
solution for you, too. Call for a free evaluation and hearing test and get back
in the conversation.
