WIKY Morning Show Re-Cap for Thursday, June 16th
WIKY Morning Show Re-Cap June 16, 2011
** The Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup by beating the Vancouver Cunucks 4-0 in game 7. We pointed out that hockey fans already know this, the rest of us are just amazed that people are still playing hockey in the middle of June. Also, the fans in Vancouver were so distraught they set cars on fire and rioted outside of the arena.....sounds like they took a page out of the Detroit playbook!
** Heard about something for our vets - Frosty Mountain Ice located at 1315 W Columbia St will offer our present and past military personal a free 16 lb bag of ice with a military ID. The event will take place July 2, 2011 from 7:00 am -12:30 pm. This is our way of saying Thank you for your service to our country.
** CIA.gov was hacked yesterday. We had a report on the numerous and serious cyber attacks lately worldwide. DJB has been to CIA.gov and found the most interesting item there was the CIA Kids’ Page. Really.
** A Savannah, Georgia woman called 911 after a Chinese restaurant got her order wrong. We had the call. Needless to say, she was arrested for disorderly conduct....all over getting the wrong egg rolls. Unbelievable!
** Diane found a new study by the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine has found one of the biggest reasons married couples fight. And it's not money, or stress, or the kids, or sex, or whether I'm REALLY going to have to sit through ANOTHER horrible season of "The Bachelorette". Nope. Fights happen because . . . WIVES ARE TIRED.
In the study, the researchers found that the more trouble a woman has sleeping, and the less sleep she gets, the more negative her interactions are with her husband. Men's sleep levels didn't have the same impact because the researchers say quote, "Women are generally more expressive and tend to drive the emotional climate of a couple's relationship." To which DJB noted the framed quote in his kitchen, “If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.”
** We talked movie music. Spinner.com has put out lists of The 25 Best Movie-Opening Songs and The 25 Best Movie-Closing Songs. The guidelines were: Musicals didn't count . . . and they had to actually be SONGS, not theme music. Also, there could only be one entry per director on each list . . . so good music selectors like MARTIN Scorsese and QUENTIN TARANTINO wouldn't completely dominate the lists.
--Here are the Top 10 Best Movie-Opening Songs:
1.) "Fight the Power", Public Enemy . . . from "Do the Right Thing"
2.) "Stayin' Alive", The Bee Gees . . . from "Saturday Night Fever"
3.) "Lust for Life", Iggy Pop . . . from "Trainspotting"
4.) "Little Green Bag", George Baker Selection . . . from "Reservoir Dogs"
5.) "The Rainbow Connection", Kermit the Frog . . . from "The Muppet Movie"
6.) "The End", The Doors . . . from "Apocalypse Now"
7.) "Hello Vietnam", Johnny Wright . . . from "Full Metal Jacket"
8.) "I'm All Right", Kenny Loggins . . . from "Caddyshack"
9.) "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", Marvin Gaye . . . from "The Big Chill"
10.) "Goldfinger", Shirley Bassey . . . from "Goldfinger"\
Among the songs that WIKY listeners also suggested were Simple Minds, “Don’t Forget about Me” from “The Breakfast Club”, "Eye of the Tiger" from "Rocky 3", "Danger Zone" from "Top Gun" and Dean Martin’s classic “That’s Amore” from “Moonstruck.”
** With Indiana’s new texting while driving law going into effect July 1, a cautionary tale from Canada. --On Monday, in Barrie, Ontario, a Canadian 17-year-old was driving over the speed limit . . . and she was texting. And while she texted with one hand, she was using the other one to try to pick up her CAT off the seat. And that was just too much. She lost control of the car and set off a major chain reaction. She slammed into a parked car in a driveway. That car slammed into a boat in the driveway. And that boat slammed into another car . . . AND went through the wall of a HOUSE. Overall, her texting-and-cat-scooping while driving caused more than $100,000 in damage.
The driver was arrested for careless driving. Amazingly, she was the only person hurt in the entire chain reaction . . . and she was treated for minor injuries at the hospital. By the way, attorney Gail Gerling will be our guest Monday on the WIKY Morning Show to explain the new Indiana law on driving and texting.
** We welcomed Angie Richards Cooley live in studio and she gave us the lowdown on Christ the King’s Summer Social coming up this weekend. Great food, fun, and cash prizes for all! It’s Saturday and Sunday 5-8pm at the church on East Chandler Avenue.
