Happy Monday! In case you missed anything, here's what happened on today's WIKY Morning Show

We had an interesting discussion on the WIKY Morning Show about a trend in restaurants.  Apparently, more and more restaurants are encouraging their servers to get rid of the pen and paper and take orders by memory.  There are three reasons they're doing this, according to the article in the New York Post  -

#1.)  It helps the server keep eye contact, which creates a better bond and leads to a better tip.

#2.)  It makes the servers concentrate harder, which leads to better service.

From time to time on the WIKY Morning Show, we enjoy solving what we call “little mysteries.”  We received a call this morning from Donna Hollander who lives off Sharon Road in Newburgh.  She and her family have been hearing a weird sound for the past couple of weeks that she said sounded like something from “War of the Worlds.”  What in the world could it be?

On the WIKY Morning Show we posed the question - where is the ONE place you'd take a visiting friend or family member?

Among the several calls and emails we received, The Hilltop, Gerst House, Moonlite, China Bistro, Angelo's, Piece of Cake, and the Log Inn were the most popular restuarants mentioned.  Audubon Park, Garden of the Gods, Angel Mounds, the Evansville museum and planetarium downtown, CMOE, Casino Aztar, Mesker Park Zoo and the LST 325 were the most popular attractions.

Here's one of those studies that seems to defy gender stereotypes . . . until you think about it and say, "You know, that actually makes sense."  According to a new study, men spend more money on impulse buys than women:  Men spend approximately $41 on impulse buys versus $31 for women.

The Public Education Foundation is having their 2nd annual Confections of the Rich and Decadent, The Ultimate Bake Sale, and Amy Walker of the PEF successfully recruited Diane and me to donate a baked goodie.  Last year, you may recall, I offered a Coca-Cola chocolate cake, the first thing I had ever baked.  A very nice woman bought it and actually said it was tasty.  Clearly, she was just being polite.  But I thanked her anyway.

This year, I was all set to go with this suggestion from Patti Hilton, a no-bake fudge recipe –

Check this out!  The peeps at UCLA recently finished a 3 year study testing men and women's stress levels around the house. (I'm not sure who thinks these things up, but I digress.) Anyway, they monitered people's brain chemicals to see exactly what stressed people out and what chilled them.

This story has been in the news for a little while, but I finally had to comment on it.

Last week on “Good Morning America,” there was a story about a mom giving her 8-year-old Botox. I don’t think you’ll be surprised to find out the child competes in pageants. Britney Campbell and her mom Kerry appeared on the show to talk about her “beauty regimen.”

I love shopping for clothes between seasons.  You know, when stores are thinning out their inventory and put a lot of stuff on sale.  Dillards does a wonderful job of slashing end-of-season apparel and you can get great deals on decent clothes.  Generally, you also have a limited selection.  Here’s the shirt we talked about on the WIKY Morning Show.   I bought it last Fall for $8.  I wore it a few times before my wife noticed it and asked, “Where did you get that ugly shirt?”  I don’t think it’s that bad and judging

So ladies, got a question for you to ponder.  How old is "too old" to wear certain clothes, jewelry or hairstyles? Women across the country were recently polled and the answers might just surprise you. Here are the results:

Bikini---you're too old at age 47

Miniskirt--age 35

Tube Top--age 33

Stilettos--age 51

Belly button ring--35

Knee-high boots--age 47

Leather pants--age 34

With record flooding across the Tri-state, we’ve heard from a number of families and neighborhoods where sandbagging has taken on the literal meaning of using a shovel and a strong back.

I’ve heard from a number of folks curious about our American RV adventure to Gulf Shores (or judging from the number of people we ran into from the Tri-state while we were there, “Evansville-by-the-Sea.”)

The American RV rental we used was a 28 foot Class C recreational vehicle. Those are the kind built on a truck frame (as opposed to the flat front bus-like Class A RV). Handling is a big question. A few I’ve talked to were a bit intimidated by having to drive such a large vehicle. And, I was

We found this item absolutely fascinating! It seems as a woman, no matter how much you think it will never happen to you, one day you're going to wake up and realize you've turned into your mother! And a new survey has tried to pinpoint exactly when that's going to happen.

Well, the folks at Hallmark surveyed a bunch of people and it turns out that the average age a woman turns into her mother is 32! Seriously?!

It was a Spring Break of firsts - first ever Spring vacation, first time to Gulf Shores, Alabama, and the first time on any trip in an RV. American RV, in the recreation vehicle business in Evansville for 40 years, set us up with one of their rental units and off we went to the sand and surf of the Gulf Coast.

My impression? It was, top to bottom, one of the nicest vacations my family has experienced. Being a long-time tent camper, I was a bit skeptical how the whole RV thing would work out for us. Come on?  Y

If you’re a long-time listener of the WIKY Morning Show, you know that I’m a huge Doris Day fan.  I am also a big Elizabeth Taylor fan, so the news of her passing left me a bit sad.

A couple of weeks ago, my mom and I went to see the movie "Blue Valentine," starring Michelle Williams and Ryan Gossling. Michelle Williams had been nominated for a Best Actress Oscar, so we wanted to check it out.  Well, about halfway through the film, we looked at each other and decided to leave.

I’ve hooked up with American RV (US 41 & Baseline Road) to use one of their RVs on a Spring Break vacation next week.  This will represent a couple of firsts – it’s the first time we’ve taken a spring vacation and it’s the first time we’ve used an RV to camp.

This morning on the show we discussed those DVDs or VHS tapes that you may be embarassed to admit you own.  I had so many to choose from, but here are the two that made the cut (so to speak)!

Another Oscar telecast is history, and while I didn't hate it as much as DJB did, I still long for the days when Billy Crystal was the host.  James Franco and Anne Hathaway did an "okay" job, but I really didn't have to see James Franco dressed up as Marilyn Monroe. Yikes!

We talked about "chore duty" on the show this morning and found out some illuminating information! If you think splitting the chores with your spouse 50-50 is going to make the resentment and inequality in your relationship magically disappear....that may not be the case.

According to a new book called "Spousonomics," couples who divide chores right down the middle can have as many issues as other couples.

A lot of people complain about the number of sequels that hog all the screens at movie theatres these days.  And if you're one of them, then I hate to tell you....it's going to be a bad year for you.  That's because there are 27 sequels flooding the marketplace.  And that's an all-time record. (The previous record was 23 in 2003.)  It also represents about one-fifth of all wide releases for the coming year!

For years, among the biggest secrets in the world has famously been the formula for Coca-Cola.  It's up there with the secret recipe for KFC, where the government is keeping the aliens, and what happened to Jimmy Hoffa (who is not buried in the endzone at Giants stadium, Mythbusters proved that).
